Magnetic Door Catch

About

Magnetic Door Catch

What is a magnetic door catch?

A strong magnetic door catch holds a door closed securely using a powerful magnet in the door frame and in the door itself. They are ideal for internal doors that don’t need to be locked, such as in a corporate office setting. Other applications for these catches are hidden doors or doors in your space that you would rather keep closed (a great example is the door into the loungeroom to keep the heat in during winter).

These heavy-duty magnetic door catches allow designers to create a secret door or the concealed door because there is no need for a handle to hold the door in place. They are therefore often used with walk-in closets or storerooms. Because there are no moving parts, doors can be opened and closed completely noiselessly. This also helps to increase their lifespan as the strain of moving parts is removed from the equation, making replacement less frequent and adding to the durability of these magnetic latches.

A strong magnetic door catch is similar to a magnetic lock but it ‘catches’ the door and holds it closed without locking it. This type of magnetic door-closing system allows the door to close silently and there are no moving parts to wear out. In conjunction with our range of door pivots and concealed hinges, the magnetic catch is the perfect accessory for ensuring that the hidden door you’ve taken great lengths to install in your project remains hidden - until you’re ready to reveal it of course (preferably with a dramatic entrance).

But even for conventional doors, our magnetic catches provide a way to ensure doors will be close without worrying about the use of handles or other moving parts. Instead of the old, heavy hydraulic levers, the advancements in magnetic technology have made keeping the office doors closed a sinch.

These magnetic catches are often used in conjunction with door pivots to keep pivoting doors in their closed position. For more about pivot doors and the hardware needed to make them work, see our blog.
